Wittersham Horticultural Society members showed that months of rain couldn’t dampen their efforts to grow stunning exhibits for the Spring Show which was held in the Village Hall on Saturday 31st March.
Trumpet, large cupped, small cupped, double, triandrus, cyclamineus, jonquil, tazetta, poeticus, bulbocodium and split-corona daffodils (to name just a few!) took centre stage on the day with a riot of shades from orange to yellow all the way to a delicate pale cream and white.
In the domestic section, the eggstravagantly decorated Easter cakes really did look far too good to eat, the men proved to be a dab hand at the complicated task of making chocolate swiss rolls and the Women’s Institute gave Mcvitie’s a run for their money with their home-baked-hard-to-resist Jaffa cakes.
The Wittersham community also showed their creative ingenuity with beautiful floral arrangements, photographs and original art. Not to be outdone, the Brownies and Guides designed and produced an impressive array of posters for the next WHS Rose and Sweet Pea Show which will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 16th June. With a change in the weather (we hope, this being England), this promises to be yet another show-stopping display.
